If your dog tracks in mud, has accidents, or loves water, a waterproof box bed saves you cleanup time. The Dexter range offers wipe-clean Oxford fabric and a zip-off washable cover.
Quick answer
A waterproof box dog bed is the practical choice for dogs that get muddy, wet, or have accidents because the Oxford fabric wipes clean and the zip-off cover is machine washable.
Why waterproof matters more than you think
Standard fabric beds soak up moisture, dirt, and odours. Over time they become heavy, smelly, and hard to clean. A waterproof layer stops liquids from reaching the inner padding, so the bed stays fresher longer and you don't need to wash the whole thing every time.
The box shape advantage
Box beds have raised sides that give dogs a sense of security and prevent them from dragging bedding or padding out. The square corners also maximise usable floor space inside the bed, which is especially helpful for dogs that like to stretch out or curl up.
Diagnosis: Is a waterproof box bed right for your dog?
- Symptom: Your dog comes in from the garden or walk with muddy paws and a wet coat, and the bed quickly looks and smells dirty.
- Likely cause: Standard fabric beds absorb moisture and dirt, trapping odours and requiring frequent deep cleaning that wears out the bed.
- Corrective action: Switch to a waterproof box bed like the Dexter range. The Oxford fabric wipes clean, and the zip-off cover can be machine washed at 30°C when needed. Check that the bed size matches your dog's length from nose to tail base, with room to stretch.
- Stop or choose another option: If your dog is a heavy chewer that destroys fabric beds, a waterproof box bed may not last. Consider a chew-resistant bed instead. If you prefer a soft, plush feel, look for a waterproof option with a fleece top layer.
